The beautiful life of Ms. Nettie P. Reid, our grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend came to a triumphant end on Friday, February 12, 2021 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby, NC. She was the third oldest child of the late James “Jim” Porter and the late Venice Allen Porter and was born on February 23, 1945 in Spartanburg, SC.
Nettie was reared and raised to become a hard worker and an independent thinker. She attended John Chavis School in Cherryville, NC. She was married to the late Charlie Reid and was the proud mother of one son, the late Darrell J. Reid. As a single mother, she worked productively at PPG Industries and later retired from Impact Furniture Company in Hildebrand, NC.
After retirement, you could find her working in her well manicured lawn. She loved to stay busy whether it was cleaning inside or outside. Nettie was a sharp dresser and it showed especially on Sunday’s while attending her church Palmer Grove Baptist under the leadership of her beloved pastor, Rev. James L. Smith.
Nettie was preceded in death by her parents, her only child and two siblings, Arthur Porter, Sr., and Luvenia Phillips.
She leaves to cherish fond memories of her to her sister, Judy Woods of Shelby, NC; a brother, James “June” Porter of Kings Mountain, NC; a grandson, Nikolas Reid of Charlotte, NC; a special niece, Tammy Stephens; a god-son, Jonathan Goforth; long time friend who was like a sister, Nettie Goforth and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The funeral service for Ms. Reid will be private. She can be viewed from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 17, 2021with a reception of friends from 2:00 PM until 2:30 PM at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel and at other times the home of Judy Woods 524 Kings Road, Shelby, NC. Burial will take place at Palmer Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Praying for you all. I will definitely miss stopping by her house and her calling me Sissy.
To the family of Ms Nettie Reid...You have my deepest condolences. Please take comfort in knowing that she is resting peacefully with her son now and all her cares and burdens have been taken away. She was a good lady and I consider it an honor and a blessing to have had the opportunity of meeting and knowing her. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

Dear Judy Woods & Family , We want you to know how deeply sorry we are for the loss of your sister, Nettie Reid. She will be greatly missed but you can find peace in the good memories that you have.
