Phillip Woods
Mr. Phillip Lamont Woods was born on February 9, 1983 in Danville, Virginia. He departed this life for a better one on August 22, 2022 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was the son of Dinah Ann Woods and Sylvester Lamont Woods. In 1994, Phillip lost his mother at a very young age to breast cancer and he was raised by his loving grandmother who preceded him in death, Gertrude Carter Jones.
In 1998, Phillip gave his life to Christ at a very young age and was a member of White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Dry Fork, Virginia under the leadership of Pastor Edward L. Pope. In June 2001, Phillip graduated from George Washington High School in Danville, Virginia, and moved to Charlotte, NC to further his education. He graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. In 2013, he earned a degree in Human Services before deciding in 2015 to enroll at ECPI to become a nurse. He continued to work in healthcare as a registered medical assistant. Phillip loved his family, traveling and shopping.
Phillip leaves to cherish his memory to his grandmother, Louise Woods of Danville, Virginia; a loving aunt, Nellie Baylor (Fred) of Matthews, North Carolina and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends whom he loved.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 4:30 PM at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Matthews, NC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 4:30 PM on Saturday.

Words cannot describe the deep sadness that I feel. Selfishly, I was not ready to say goodbye. Mr. Woods was by far the strongest person I knew. His strength and resilience was incomparable. My deepest condolences to the family. He was not just my patient, he was family too. I'm so glad that he knew how much I loved him before his passing. Mr. Woods definitely made sure my nurse and I knew how much he loved us at every appointment. Enjoy heaven, Mr. Woods. You fought a great fight!
