Regina Marie Borders Roberts went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 19, 2023 at Atrium Health Cleveland in Shelby, NC. She was born on February 21, 1970 also in Shelby.
Gina as she was called by many was a 1988 graduate of Shelby High School. She went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel-Hill with a degree in Social Work.
She had over 25 years of Child Welfare experience as a skilled Social Worker working with youth and families in the foster care system. She began her career working in Cleveland County and eventually transitioned to Catawba County. She was particularly passionate and devoted to working with youth aging out of foster care and transitioning into adulthood. She chose the profession of social work to help others and devoted her life to make a career of it.
She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, charter member of the Omega Sigma Omega Chapter. She was the Awards Chairman and served as a financial secretary. In addition, Gina spearheaded the voters registration drive at the local high school in Cleveland County.
Gina was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and served on the finance committee. Gina enjoyed volunteering with activities where children were involved. She volunteered her summers serving as a Vacation Bible School teacher while attending Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
Gina loved her children, and she gave each of them a nickname; Brittany “Ladybug,” Barrance “Bucky,” and Brianna “Moo-Moo.” She constantly spoke life into her children and loved each equally. She instilled the importance of education and was committed to ensuring her children were on a successful path. As a result, by the spring of 2024 Gina will have three college graduates. She showed her children tough love in a nurturing way and always told them “not to worry about her.” She led with always stating to her kids that, “You all can do anything you put your mind to.”
Everyone who knew Gina knew how much she enjoyed listening to gospel music, telling jokes, shopping, dancing, cooking, baking, talking, reading, serving her sisterhood, and spending time with her family. Even though she was the baby of the family, she shared a special bond with her parents and siblings “she was the boss”.
Gina was a true example of God giving his hardest battle to his strongest soldiers. While enduring hardships Gina always acknowledged her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with her infectious smile. She always reminded you of how good He was. She had faith from the beginning to the end. When you spoke with Gina on the phone, the call never ended with “goodbye,” it was always “See you later.”
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, James Edward Borders, Sr. and May Belle Moss Borders.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Brittany Roberts of Kings Mountain, NC Barrance “T.J.” Roberts, Jr. and Brianna Roberts both of Shelby; her parents, Ward Henry and Jennie Borders Camp of Shelby; siblings, Donna Borders (Jonathan) of Kings Mountain, Rodney Borders (Lisa) and Shirley Ann Montgomery (Darryl) both of Shelby; aunts, Betty Manuel, Lillian Herring, Bennie Borders and Lena Mae Borders all of Shelby; her special uncle, Robert Borders of Greensboro, NC; nieces, Kay’se Wilson, Porsha Russell, Jasmine Keaton and Jalynn Borders; nephew, William Edward Wilson, III; special friends, Dawn Nance of Shelby and Bernie Boags of Hickory, NC and a host of special cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM on Tuesday and additional times at 410 Atlantic Ave. Shelby between the hours of 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM through Monday, July 24th.

To the Borders & Camp family, you have my deepest sympathy. Regina had reached out to me earlier this year to catch me up on what she had been going through. I'm glad we talked and I hate we didn't meet up like we had planned. I'm glad you consider me as a friend and we had lots of laughs together. I'm saddened to hear about you passing🙏💕
Although I didn't know Gina personally I am a friend and coworker of Shirley Ann. We would talk about Gina almost daily and have had her in my prayers. I will continue to pray for all who loves and who will miss Gina. Rest easy.
