Deacon Robert Lewis Clark, 80, of 112 Peter Key Road, transitioned to his heavenly home on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Atrium Health in Shelby, North Carolina. He was born on July 2, 1943, to the late Richard and Ada Pounds Clark. He was preceded in death by his son Cedric Omar Clark; sisters, Frances Surratt, Mary Alice Stewart, and Corine Lee; brothers, Richard Clark Jr. and Eddie Clark, and son-in law, Charles Byrd.
Robert grew up in Cleveland County where he attended Douglas High School in Lawndale, NC. He was employed with Burns Middle School for 30 years as Head Supervisor of Custodians. In addition, he worked at The Cushion Company as a Supervisor for many years.
Robert was united in holy matrimony to Jo Alice Phillips for 60 years and blessed with three children. He was a good provider, loved his family and family gatherings. His passion was working on special projects in the home--e.g., painting, plumbing, and electronics. He loved working on cars as well. He enjoyed watching western cowboy movies and football games. The Carolina Panthers was his favorite team.
Robert was a lifelong and faithful member of the Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church for many years and served as a Deacon and Treasurer.
His memories will be cherished by his wife, Jo Alice Phillips Clark and two daughters Joyce Lee of Washington, DC, and Lynn Clark Byrd of Lawndale, NC; one brother John Clark (Betty) of Lawndale, NC; sisters, Velma Vinson(James) of Iron Station, NC, Eunice Wimbush of Lawndale, NC, Mae Katherine Williams of Vale, NC and Christine Morgan of Columbus, OH; brother-in-law, Edward Surratt; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church, Lawndale, NC. Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr.Bud was a nice person. He was definitely a man after God heart. What i remember about him the most was our conversations about how good God is and his childhood life growing up as a little boy. We also would talk about different wild life animals we both like to eat.I mention to him i like deer. He ask me do i want some i told him yes.He was forever my BUDDY!! He made my day. Oh no I am loss for words. I used to work with Mr. Clark as a youngster in the JTPA program during the summer and he thought me a lot from running a buffer to using a floor scrubber and waxing the school floors. He was a hard-working individual that anyone could learn and work for. He will be greatly missed.
