Ms. Sarah Jane Martin, 79 of Shelby, NC departed this life on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Peak Resources in Shelby. She was born on October 8, 1942 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Cletus Martin and the late Lydia Edwards Martin.
“Sarahjane” was a retired employee of Cone Mills where she worked for over 30 years. She was a faithful member of Young’s Chapel AME Zion Church where she dutifully served as a deaconess and a member of the Kitchen Committee. She was a wonderful cook who was known for her delicious macaroni and cheese among other delectable dishes. “Sarahjane” enjoyed being around her family and reuniting with her classmates at class reunions.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Martin; three sisters, Bella Martin, Louise Byers and Hazel Hicks and four brothers, Nelson Martin, Charlie Martin, Clifford Martin and Robert Martin.
Left to cherish her memory are one sistr, Inez Earl of Far Rockaway, NY; four nieces whom she helped rear, Aleta Byers, Farrion Daniels (Alonzo), Kimberly Byers and Contina Wilson (Rodney) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 3:30 PM at Youngs’s Chapel AME Church. Burial will take place at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 3:30 PM at the church.
