Obituary For Vernell Brown

Mrs. Vernell Hunt Brown, 86, of 413 Mary’s Grove Church Road Kings Mountain, NC passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at her residence. She was born on October 19, 1934 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Thomas Wilder Hunt and the late Margaret Ruth Olgesby Hunt.

She attended and graduated from Cleveland High School. She worked many years as a cook at Rose’s Department Store and later worked at various jobs as a domestic worker.

She joined Shiloh Baptist Church under the tutelage of Rev. R.E. Devoe at an early age where she served as needed. Mrs. Brown joined Washington Baptist Church and later New Life Christian under the guidance of Pastor Herbert Rhedrick, where she served until her health failed. In her spare time, she loved traveling to Philadelphia, PA for their flower shows. She also loved spending time with her granddaughters baking and also sewing and making crafts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James N. Brown; her sons, Jerry Hunt, Sgt. James A. Brown, Sr., and Vernon A. Brown; her sisters, Betty Adams, Audrey Sanders and Doris Hunt; her brothers, Charles Hunt and Herbert Hunt; granddaughter, Anice M. Brown and mother-in-law, Bessie B. Berry.

Mrs. Brown is survived by a sister, Margaret Young (Eugene); brother, Gilbert Hunt; daughters, Wanda Gail McDowell, Kathy Howell and Jennifer Brown Ambrose (Edward); sons, John Hunt and wife Linda Hunt and Reginald Forrest Hunt; daughter-in-law, Faye Brown; grandchildren, Michelle Benton (Benjy), Wayne Howell, Jr., Aaliyah Hunt, Jasmine Hunt, Tonia Brown, Carldrick Bown (Tamala), Evangeline Brown, Angeline Brown, James A. Brown, Jr. (Daytona), Renee Brown, Vernon A. Brown, Jr., Nicole Brown, Christopher Brown (India) and loved by a host of great grands, greatgreat grands, nieces, nephews and friends.

She can be viewed from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at New Life Christian Church in Kings Mountain, NC from 1:00 PM until 1:30 PM and at other times at 413 Mount Sinai Church Road, Shelby. Burial will take place at Washington Missionary Baptist Church.
