Mr. Warren Dean Shade “aka DD aka Diesel” departed this life on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC. He was born on October 9, 1951 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Paul Shade, Sr. and Inez Ruth Hunter Shade.
Warren was a 1969 graduate of Burns High School. He was a retired employee of P.P.G. Industries. He was a longtime member of Emanuel Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in Lawndale, NC. After relocating to Cherryville, NC, he became a member of Presbyterian Church of Cherryville and attended until his health declined.
Warren loved his family. He enjoyed picking poke salad to yellow root stems, playing spades, shooting pool, fishing and being outdoors. He also enjoyed listening to music whether it was Gospel or R&B. Warren was truly a kid at heart. When you saw him, he would always share his peppermint and butterscotch with you. He had such a warm, carefree spirit.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, April Rosa Shade; brothers, Tommy Lee Shade and Paul Shade, Jr. and a sister, Mary Edna Shade Schenck.
Left to cherish his memory is one son, Quincy T. Shade (Cortina) of Cherryville, NC; a grandson, Tyler Shade; two bonus grandsons, Unterio Jolly and Devonta Ponder both of Shelby; one bonus granddaughter, Glorea Ponder of Houston, TX; a sister, Patricia “Pat” Shade Kirkland of Conyers, GA; a brother, James Edward Shade of Shelby; a sister-in-law, Fannie Hopper Shade of Lawndale; a brother-in-law, Rev. Charles Kirkland of Atlanta, GA; four special nieces, Angela Fuller Dawkins, Mary “Libby” Fuller Linder, Trena Fuller Ross and Minister Camille Shade Whisnant; five special nephews, Keith “HB” Kirkland, Minister Timothy Kirkland, Keith Shade, Kevin Shade, Brian Kirkland and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends and a host of great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 3:30 PM at Emmanuel AME Zion Church. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 3:30 PM at the church and at other times at 100 BlackRock School Road Cherryville.

We only knew Warren for a short while, at First Presbyterian Church in Cherryville before his passing but in that short time his humility and love for God and his fellowman was evident in his actions. We should all be so humble.
