DEACONESS AGNES HITE HOLMES, affectionately called “Agnus” by her family and daughter of the late Jasper Fields and Mary Alice Simmons Jackson, was born July 8, 1937 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia and departed this life June 23, 2019 in VCU-Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill, VA at 9:17 AM.

At an early age she was baptized and joined Pleasant Hill RZUA Church, LaCrosse, VA. She attended Booker Boyd School.

Agnus was married to the late Deacon Edward Lewis Hite, Sr. and to this union seven children were born- Edna LaVern, Brenda, Alice Elaine, Marilyn Denise, Janet, Barry, and the late Lewis Jr. The children she reared who also preceded her in death are Leroy and Junius Hite.

After marriage she joined Bethel Memorial RZUA Church; where she was a Deaconess and Missionary.

Agnus was employed by Brunswick Senior High School, Lawrenceville, VA for many years until her retirement.

She later married Will Roger Holmes, Jr. Agnus was loved by her community and was the best friend to her children. She would play games with them when they were younger in the yard. If you needed something, she was there to lend a helping hand; not only to her family but friends as well.

Agnus leaves to mourn her husband, Will Roger Holmes, Jr. of the home; five daughters- Edna LaVerne (George) Hines; Brenda H. Macklin, Alice Elaine Goodrich, and Marilyn Denise Hite, all of South Hill, VA and Janet H. Jones, Brodnax, VA; one son- Barry (Sharon) Hite, Sr., Alberta, VA; child she reared- Norma Jean Rainey, Kenbridge, VA; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Hite; mother-in-law, Annie Marie Holmes, South Hill, VA; 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; four sisters- Doris Walker, Harriett Harris, Mary Gibson and Evelyn Jackson; one brother- Michael Jackson; six sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Quinton) Alston, Patricia Talley, Glenda Holmes (Aubrey), Claudia and Margaret Holmes, and Lisa (Tyrone) Williams; three brothers-in-law, Lander Hendricks, Sr., Charles (Angela) Holmes and Michael Holmes; devoted friends- Carolyn House and James Mott; devoted caregivers- Tiffany H. Johnson and Chantel Talley, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends.
