BARRY LYNN BOYD was born December 30, 1972 to the late Mary Sue Holmes Boyd and the late Horace Watkins in Mecklenburg County, VA. His siblings- Helen Boyd and Barbara Boyd Ruffin preceded him in death also.
He was educated in the Mecklenburg County Public Schools.
At a young age Barry gave and dedicated his life to the Lord and renewed his commitment to Christ before he passed. He was bashful about boasting on his relationship with Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior. Barry would often share that this was the foundation of life.
Barry was a loving father, devoted son, brother and friend. He was not a stranger to hard work and in fact he rarely ever missed work. One of the highlights of his professional career was completing the Walmart Manager’s Institute and working his way from the parking lot to Assistant Store Manager. He was a wizard at logistics and was known as a complete team player. Barry’s God given talent and ability to connect made him an asset wherever he worked. Barry most recent career path landed him a position at The Defense Logistics Agency in the Classified Department in Richmond, VA.
When it came to speaking his mind, Barry made an art form of it. He was the consummate communicator that loved to converse with friends and loved ones, none more than his mother, the late Mary Sue Boyd. He was a magnet for attracting people, new and old, with his playful and cunning disposition. Barry was no stranger to being the life of the party and bringing laughter to all around. He had the rare ability to remain uniquely true to himself and we were all fortunate to have him as a part of our lives. Barry was affectionately known amongst friends and family as “B Money,” “Biz,” or as he often referred to himself, “The Big Fish.” Barry will live forever in our hearts and minds.
Barry experienced increasing health challenges over the past few years and passed away on September 17, 2024 at the Colonial Heights Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Colonial Heights, VA.
Barry leaves to cherish his memory: a daughter- Laquita Farrar (Keesha), South Hill, VA; five brothers- Horace Boyd (Tammie), Lawrenceville, VA; Stacey Boyd, Chesterfield, VA; Troy “Hollywood” (Leatrice) Boyd, South Hill, VA; Brandon (Dany) Chavis, Chester, VA and Curtis Harris, Lawrenceville, VA; two sisters- Dorothy Boyd (John) Feggins, Baskerville, VA and Kezzie Boyd (George), Boydton, VA; God-children- Alexis and Jaxen Hite, Chesterfield, VA; Extended family: Jose Hite, Orlando Douglas, Anthony Smith, Vincent Walker, Cornelius Talley, Damond Jackson, Lamont Bacon, Jamethro Rogers, David Hawkes, Wade Baskerville, Allen Alston, Earnest Jones, Carnell Meredith, Ron White, Tiko Davis, Terry Burnette and Fredrick Feggins; Dedicated family: Naomi Anderson, T’andria Earley, Tori Anderson, Terrell Anderson, Tya Anderson, and Andrea Earley; His Defense Logistics Agency Family: Shaunta Cunningham, Tony Wyatt, Leroy Shaw, Noel Edmonds, Terrey Townsend, David Pearce, Tracy Barnette, Gary Coleman, Jamie Howard, and Keith Barrow, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In Loving Memory of Thalihimers
Barry wasn't just a friend to me; he was family—a brother in every sense. We grew up together, played sports side by side, and he always stood by me through every up and down. My family embraced him as one of our own, and we lovingly called him "Thalihimers" because he grew to be a giant among us in both stature and spirit.
I spoke to Barry not too long ago while he was at St. Mary's, and the news of his passing has hit me hard. I know that God has a plan for each of us, but I can't help feeling that Barry left us far too soon. I'm truly heartbroken that he's gone, but I will always carry his memory with me.
Semper Fidelis, my brother. Rest easy, and know that you will forever be in our hearts.
With deepest respect and love, The Phillips Family
My deepest sympathies and condolences to the family. I have know Barry for most of our lives. We were schoolmates, we hung out when we were younger and even though our lives took different paths as we got older, we were always cordial whenever we saw one another. He will be truly missed. Prayers to all family and friends. Rest in peace Barry.... Mrs. Courtney Pryor Neblett
