MRS. BETTY JEAN HARRIS , daughter of the late Daniel W. Thomas, Sr. and the late Mamie Baggs Reed was born February 5, 1938 in Baxley, GA and departed this life February 1, 2023 in Wake Med Hospital, Raleigh, NC. She was reared by the late Sally Cake and Thomas Walker.

At an early age she attended church in Ludowici, GA where she also attended public school. She later moved to New Jersey where she obtained her GED.

Betty met and later married Bennie Harris, Sr. on February 28, 1958 and to this union two sons were born. Archie preceded her in death.

Betty was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Newark, NJ where she sang in the choir.

She was employed for many years by the Veterans Hospital in East Orange, NJ until her retirement in 1999.

After retirement, Betty later moved to Boydton, VA. She joined Williams Grove RZUA Church where she served as treasurer at one time.

In her spare time she loved to go shopping and spending time with family. Above all she loved to cook.

Betty leaves to cherish her memory her husband- Bennie Harris, Sr., Youngsville, NC; son- Bennie Gene Harris, Riverdale, GA; grand-daughter, Alanda Roshonna Harris; grand-son, Brandon Michael Harris; two great-grand-daughters, Enyah Haynes and Brooklyn Smith; sister- Gertha Mae Pulliam, NJ; two brothers- Reverend Daniel W. Thomas, Jr., Tennille, GA and Samuel K. Thomas, London, England; brother-in-law, Freddie Harris, Union, NJ, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
