CARWELL CAVEL BOYD, affectionately called “Nick,” son of the late Gilbert and Clementine Boyd, was born August 20, 1943 in Mecklenburg County, VA and departed this life November 30, 2019 in VCU-Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill, VA. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Jean Boyd Ruffin; two sisters, Helen Boyd Valentine and Dorothy Boyd Valentine; five brothers- Nelson, Douglas, Robert, James, and Gene Boyd, and grand-daughter, Nikita Brown.
At an early age he was baptized and joined St. Stephens RZUA Church, Bracey, VA. He attended Mecklenburg County Public Schools.
Carwell was employed for many years in logging. Before his health began to fail, he was working with Brodnax Lumber Company.
Carwell was joined in holy matrimony to Mary Sue Holmes and to this union four children were born- Helen, Barbara, Dorothy, and Horace.
Carwell leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife- Mary Sue Boyd, South Hill, VA; three children- Dorothy Boyd (John) of the home, Horace Boyd, Sr. and Della (Marvin) Walker, all of South Hill, VA; devoted grand-daughter of the home- LaToya Boyd; devoted niece- Vanessa Kizzie Powell, LaCrosse, VA; grandkids-Octavia Boyd, South Hill, VA; Calvin Rhodes, Durham, NC; Daquan Whitfield, Radford, VA; Keonte’ Hite, LaCrosse, VA; Jasmine Boyd and Horace Boyd, Jr., Richmond, VA; Tremayne Brown, Kenbridge, VA; 10 great-grandkids; step-mother, Viola Boyd, Boston, MA; son-in-law, Bruce Ruffin, Lawrenceville, VA; foster daughter- Crystal White, South Hill, VA; four brothers- Max Boyd, LaCrosse, VA; Melvin (Beatrice) Shaw, Blackridge, VA; Milton and Ben Boyd, Boston, MA; eight sisters- Barbara Valentine, Brodnax, VA; Judy King and Mary Harris, Richmond, VA; Wilhelmina (Nandor) Standi, Lakewood, NJ; Catherine Hawkins, Manhattan, NY; Vinnie (James) Davis and Brenda Boyd, Boston, MA, and Nora McQueen, Greensboro, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

It hurts my heart to know that you have left us,you will be greatly missed. I enjoyed the good times we had at the family cookouts during the summer at Moons, you always had a smile on your face. Love you and Rest In Peace!!!!
