MR. CHARLES M. TISDALE, SR, affectionately called “Chimmy Carroll,” was born January 10, 1938, to the late Charlie Robert and Fannie Bell Tisdale in Lunenburg County, VA and departed this life June 16, 2025, at Lakeside Health & Rehabilitation Center, Richmond, VA. He was preceded in death by his siblings- Carrie Vernell Rainey and William Percell Tisdale.

At an early age Charles was baptized and joined New Grove Baptist Church, Kenbridge, VA. He later joined the United States Army and received an honorable discharge on March 9, 1961.

He was married to Amanda Hayes and to this union two children were born, Charles Jr. and Shirley Ann.

Charles loved to ride his SWINN “collector’s” bike through the streets of Richmond, VA in which he was featured in an article in the Richmond Times Dispatch. He rode it until his breathing prohibited him. Charles intimacy was reading and fishing. His passion was the Consumer Reports Magazines and General Electric Products. His conversations with his daughter were about him telling her the pages and articles of things that interested him for her to read them. He loved cars, especially Buicks and westerns in book form. He also enjoyed watching “Law and Order” with Olivia Benson and the westerns on TV. Charles was a community barber “back in the day.”

Some of Charles’ favorite sayings were: “You Know,” “I appreciate you calling,” and “I appreciate you coming to visit.” He told you plenty of jokes to make you smile. He valued laughter and there was never a dull moment with him. He will be greatly missed.

Charles leaves to mourn: his wife- Amanda Hayes Tisdale, South Hill, VA; two children- Charles Jr. and Shirley (Larry) Tisdale all of South Hill, VA; two loving grandchildren- Iyana and Iliyah Tisdale of Natalie, VA; six siblings- Sarah C. Valentine of LaCrosse, VA; Josephine Ogburn and Fannie Mae White of Richmond, VA; Kenneth Tisdale of Emporia, VA; Mary L. Branch and Curtis C. Tisdale of South Hill, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
