DEACON ROBERT SHERMAN THOMPSON, affectionately called “Bobby,” age, 79, departed this life April 10, 2026, in Canterbury Rehabilitation & Healthcenter, Richmond, VA. He was the son of the late John Lewis Thompson and Edna Macklin Thompson. He was also preceded in death by his son, Travis.
At an early age, Robert was baptized and joined Bethel Memorial RZUA Church, LaCrosse, VA. He was a graduate of the former East End High School.
After graduation he joined the United States Army from April 12, 1966 to March 24, 1968 receiving an Honorable Discharge.
Robert was married to the late Sandra Jiggetts and to this union two children were born. He later married Arlene Hackney.
Robert was employed by Jones Electric Company as an Electrician for many years until retirement. He later joined Jerusalem Baptist Church in South Hill, VA where he was a Deacon.
In his spare time, he enjoyed watching TV, going to the gym, going to church, and being at family gatherings. He was an avid Washington Commanders fan.
Bobby leaves to cherish his memory his son- Schmann Thompson, South Hill, VA; a grandchild- Taaliyah Thompson, Pflugerville, TX; two sisters- Mary Thompson, South Hill, VA and Carolyn Owens, Roanoke Rapids, NC; a brother- Kenneth Thompson, LaCrosse, VA; sister-in-law, Mary Thompson, LaCrosse, VA; special and devoted aunt- Ercell Hargrove, South Hill, VA and an uncle-
William Macklin, Beacon, NY, and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends whom he treasured.

Condolences to the Thompson family on the passing of Bobby. Whenever we would see Bobby at church or at another family occasion, he would always come over to say hello, and say something funny and happy to make us laugh.
