HER STORY

A TIME TO BE BORN: Deaconess Rose Mary Walker was born on September 14, 1938 in New Jersey. She was a twin child born to the late Townser C. Bracey and Rosa M. Jiggetts. Rose was baptized and joined Gethsemane Baptist Church, South Hill, VA. She was a faithful church member and Deaconess.

A TIME TO PLANT: Rose achieved an 8th grade education in a family school when she moved to Virginia. She went on to drive school buses (#49 and #87) for Mecklenburg County for over 32 years until her retirement. While her main career as a bus driver had her heart, she also began to have a small daycare in her home.

A TIME TO LOVE: On October 26, 1956, Rose entered a beautiful Holy Matrimony with George Eddie “Nick” Walker and he genuinely loved his Rose. To this union, one daughter, Ernestine Bracey Wilson, was born. Rose loved the Lord and dedicated her life to Christ. She attended church faithfully until her health started to decline. She served devotedly as a Deaconess. She also was a member of the Spiritual Chorus and the Gethsemane Workshop Choir, and she drove the church’s bus and the van whenever needed. She was a great and loyal servant of God. Rose and her husband, Nick, were the owners of Walkers Cab which later turned to Rose’s Taxi Service for over 20 years. Rose Mary was a member of Carnation Chapter #171 Order of the Easter Star of Virginia, Prince Hall Affiliation for over 50 years.

A TIME TO REST: Rose Mary Walker peacefully accepted God’s call to come home to rest on September 1, 2026 when she departed this life in VCU- Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill, VA with her daughter, Tenesha and granddaughter, Miayana at her bedside. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, and daughter, Ernestine. Also, preceded her in death were her siblings: James R., Townser C., William E., John, and Nathaniel Bracey, Alvelena B. Walker, and Ellen Bracey.

A TIME TO MOURN: To cherish her memories, she leaves a daughter- Tenesha (Micheal) Johnson; a son- Minister Antoine Williams; two grandchildren- Miayana Alston and Mariyah Johnson; one great grandchild- Raheem Fields, Jr.; two sisters-in-law- Margaret Bracey and Rubertha Gooden; six Godchildren- Adasia Taylor, Cleon Walker, Gerald Sturdivant, Maurice Jiggetts, Stephanie Lee, and Adam Goode; devoted cousin- Patricia Jiggetts; devoted caregivers- Michael Johnson and Raheem Fields, and a host of other relatives and friends.
