Obituary For Eddie Pinckney, Jr.

Graveside Service with Military Honors for Mr. Eddie Pinckney, Jr.

Friday, November 22, 2019 Time: 2:00 PM at North View Baptist Church Cemetery, Highway 47, South Hill, VA

Rev. Sharon Baskerville, Officiating

MR. EDDIE PINCKNEY, JR. was called home on November 10, 2019 in Long Island Jewish Valley Stream Hospital, Brooklyn, NY. He was 77 years old.

Eddie, who sometimes was referred to as “Junior,” was born on December 31, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Eddie Pinckney of Shelton, SC and the late Ella B. Pinckney of Society Hill, SC. At an early age, Eddie joined the Mount Ollie Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY where both his parents attended. He was a wise, fun, loving guy who loved to listen to music and knew the value of a dollar.

In 1960, Eddie graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School in Brooklyn with a specialty in machinery. He was later drafted into the Army and was stationed in France and Germany from 1963 to 1965. In 1965, he proudly found his niche when he joined the NYPD Transit Unit. After dedicating over 20 years to the force, he retired in 1988. He was married to Priscilla Newton, with whom he raised four children. This union blessed him with his three precious sons. They were married from 1969 to 1975 and remained devoted friends.

Eddie loved to spend his weekends watching boxing matches with his sons. He truly enjoyed life, loved his family dearly, and worked hard to instill strong values in each of them; values that continue to serve them all to this day.

Eddie leaves to cherish his precious memories: four devoted children- Sonja Newton, Eddie Pinckney (Tracey-Ann), Lamont Pinckney (Tasha), and Rashid Pinckney (Danielle); seven grandchildren- Dominique, Imani, Tiquan, Nahteja, Justin, Rashid Jr., and Kaemanje; two great-grandchildren; three siblings-Benjamin (Janice) Pinckney , Gloria Williams, Beverly (Bobby Ray) Highsmith; uncle- Samuel Pinckney; a loving and dear friend- April Smothers, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.

He will be sorely missed and forever in our hearts.

Send flowers to the service of Eddie Pinckney, Jr.
