Mr. Henry McArthur Clayton, son of the late Rufus and the late Mary Blanche Miller Clayton, was born June 26, 1947, in Henrico, NC and departed this life in Fredericksburg, VA. He was also preceded in death by his siblings- Dennis, Mattie Bell, Elroyal, and Clarence Clayton.
Henry was a graduate of Gumberry High School in Seaboard, NC. He was later selected to play with the Minor League Farm Team of baseball, and he moved to Miami, FL. He followed the team to Stockton, California and Aberdeen, South Dakota.
After his retirement from baseball, Henry moved to Richmond, VA where he was employed as a packing operator with Phillip Morris Tobacco Company for thirty years before his retirement.
After retirement he moved to Henrico, NC for about four years and then to Emporia, VA for approximately six years and in 2016 he moved to South Hill, VA. After becoming ill, he moved with his son, Marcus, to Fredericksburg, VA.
Henry leaves to cherish his memories: his son- Marcus Jackson, Fredericksburg, VA; daughter- Kassandre Clayton, Fresno, CA; two grandchildren; four brothers- Odell (Beatrice) Clayton, Lawrenceville, VA; Charlie (Brenda) Clayton, Henrico, NC; Thurman (Sandra) Clayton, and Rufus (Carla) Clayton, all of Richmond, VA; two sisters- Helen (William) Wilkins, Elams, NC and Ernestine White, Richmond, VA; sister-in-law, Sandra Clayton, Henrico, NC; devoted friend-Argie Gary, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
