MS. JANET LOUISE BASKERVILLE HAYES, born August 15, 1956 in Philadelphia, PA and she was the eldest child of Mertis “Ann” Johnson Baskerville and the late Richard Henry Baskerville. She never hesitated to remind her four younger brothers of her status. In fact, she would go toe-to-toe with them on any issue. Janet departed this life suddenly on July 22, 2022 in VCU-Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill, VA. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Richard “Junnie” Baskerville.

She was a faithful member of Jerusalem United Church of Christ where she served as the clerk and she also sang in the Gospel Choir.
Janet took pride in watching her children and grandchildren grow up and accomplish their dreams. She was dedicated to taking care of her mother and decided to move in with her when her mother could no longer live independently. She served as the personal stylist for her mother and would often edit her outfits, especially before attending church. Janet had a special bond with her Aunt Frances, whom she loved very much. She adored babies and would go out of her way to hold them. Her face would light up whenever they were in her arms.
Janet took joy in family gatherings whether near or far. She was a member of the Positive Sistas Club. She enjoyed cooking dishes such as pasta salad, which was in high demand. She loved to dance and would Cupid Shuffle with the best of them. She maintained long-term friendships with her classmates dating back to elementary school. I first met Janet in 2013 when my mother went to live at Pine View. Over the next seven years I saw her almost every day and it was quite evident that Jesus lived through her. She treated each and every resident with dignity, respect, and love and was such an excellent nurse. Janet was the one who called to tell me our mother had passed and I will never forget her kindness. Rest In peace precious friend and may God wrap his loving arms around your family and give them comfort. 4433
