MR. JOHN THOMAS JACKSON, JR, affectionately called “Tommy”, son of Fannie Bell Evans Phillips and the late John Thomas Jackson, Sr. was born July 25, 1958 in Newark, NJ and departed this life suddenly at his residence, October 3, 2021 in South Hill, VA. He was also preceded in death by a brother- Kenneth Ricks.
He was baptized at an early age at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, Newark, NJ. He attended Barringer High School in Newark and later received his GED from Pine Knots Job Corp, Pine Knots, KY.
John served in the U.S. Army as a PVT-2 and received an honorable discharge on July 12, 1982.
He was married to Effie Jackson on November 1, 2005 and to this union a son, John Thomas, III was born. Together they ran the business “Polished 2 Shine” a cleaning business from 2007-2017. He later moved to South Hill, VA to make it his home.
John leaves to mourn his two children- Takiba Jackson, her husband Johnnie McDowell, and her mother, Lillian Morton of Westfield, NJ and John Thomas Jackson III of Chesterfield, VA; children he reared- Jovonni Sr. and Emani Thompson of Chesterfield, VA; four grandchildren- Justin, Erin, Jovonni Jr. and Jaylene; his mother- Fannie Bell Phillips of Chesterfield, VA; four siblings- John Thomas Evans and his wife Michelle Evans of South Hill, VA; Linda Jackson, and Rasheeda Jeffress and her husband Charles Jeffress of Chesterfield, VA and Joy Jackson, Newark of NJ; two aunts- Evaline Evans of South Hill, VA and Helen Jackson of Wesleyan, MI; uncle- Milton Jackson of Chattahoochee, FL; devoted friends- Anita Winn; James and Effie Robertson; Debra and Wade Baskerville; Linda Holman, Floyd Robertson, and beloved nieces, nephews along with a host of loved relatives and friends.

My heart was grieved to hear of the sudden passing of dear Tommy. His beautiful smile and personality were always present whenever I saw him. To the family, I extend my sincerest condolences and pray that God will wrap his loving arms around you and give you peace. Rest in Power, dear cousin. You will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
