HIS STORY
LAWRENCE JIGGETTS was born April 13, 1934, to Jennie Jones Jiggetts and Willis Jiggetts of South Hill, VA. Lawrence departed this life on Monday, June 12, 2023, with his daughter, Shandra at his bedside.
Lawrence was the 2nd oldest, and the 1st born son. He was educated in the Mecklenburg County Training School and East End High School system in South Hill, VA.
Lawrence was baptized at an early age and a member of Lombardy Grove Baptist Church of South Hill, VA
Sixty-four years ago, he met and married the love of his life Matilda B. Wilson Jiggetts. This union was blessed with three children Shandra, Quinton, and Lawrence. In 1962, Lawrence and Matilda moved to Newark, NJ and later to Jersey City, NJ for better employment opportunities.
Lawrence continued his Christian walk and joined World Changers Church Int’l. College Park, GA. World Changers Church NY as a vision partner with his daughter Shandra being a member since 1986. They enjoyed worship under Pastors Dr. Creflo A. Dollar and Pastor Taffi L. Dollar. His favorite scripture was Psalm 91, and his favorite Gospel songs were “Heaven” by Mary Mary, “You Can’t Hurry God” by Dorinda Clark Cole, “Good Father” by Tim Bowman Jr., “Abide” by Lexi.
Lawrence also affectionately called “Dad, Unc, Pop, Cuz, Mr. Tuggs, and “L J.” L J had a passion for his family, NY Yankee Baseball, wrestling, and spending time watching TV especially commercials, playing the lottery, and cleaning his car until you can see your reflection in it. Lawrence was a big joker and could laugh for days after making his own commercials. He would always laugh before responding to conversations. Lawrence offered encouragement at all times and would walk you through to accomplish your mission. He believed in rewarding you when doing well. He always assisted his siblings, co-workers, neighbors at any time. Lawrence was a kind gentle giant who did not expect anything in return for his good deeds.
Lawrence firmly believed we are distribution centers to “give, and it shall be given back to you, good measure, pressed down and shaken together shall men give into tour bosom enough that you cannot contain” (Luke 6:38). Lawrence had a huge heart; he would often do roll call of everyone that is in contact with his daughter, Shandra. His roll call consisted of her cousins, best friends, and bonus sisters. He knew Shandra is very affectionate of her cousins and best friends.
Recently, Lawrence discussed his fond memories of his life especially having fun with his cousins George Harvey, Man, June, Townsend, John, George Oliver, Bubba, Earl, and Ernest.
Lawrence was employed by Van Leer Chocolate Company in the 1960’s, Job Corp. in the the 1970’s, twice employed with Muralo Paint Corp., Bayonne, NJ totaling 42 years and his part-time position with subsidiary Company Hempel Marine Paints in Wallington, NJ of service before retiring in 2000. Lawrence believed God will bless your hands and your hands must be working. He possessed a great work ethic, a dedicated and diligent model employed. His biggest accomplishment was his aid in making Spackle, and other items used by Ford Motor Corp., and Nissan Motors Corp. Thanks to Shandra she successfully marketed the product at 13 yrs. old.

There are no words for this. No real way to prepare for this. No prose beautiful enough, no speech eloquent enough to capture your essence. My last conversation with you was on June 9. Nothing I could say would top the enormity of my love for the Jigget/Wilson family. My heartfelt condolences, Q, Lawrence and Shandra. Mr.Jiggets,I will see you in the morning.
