OBITUARY

MICHAEL DENNIS JACKSON, son of the late Jasper Fields and Mary Alice Simmons Jackson, was born June 23, 1956, in Mecklenburg County, VA and entered eternal rest on September 5, 2024 in VCU-MCV Hospital, Richmond, VA. He was also preceded in death by his siblings- Theodore Jackson, Lillie McKnight, Alice Walker, Doris Walker, James Jackson, Carrie Smith, Mabel Hendrick and Agnes Hite.

At an early age he was baptized and joined Bethel Memorial RZUA Church. He attended the Mecklenburg County Public Schools. He later was employed by Boydton Landfill for a short while until he became disabled.

“Uncle Mike”, as he was affectionately called, had many loves, family, his clothes, those Philadelphia Eagles, Al Green, his moped and a good meal. Mike had a big heart and a big laugh. He wouldn’t let you leave without telling you he loved you.

He leaves to mourn his fiancée- Yolanda Smith-Staten of the home; children he reared- Anthony Smith of Washington, DC; Katrinka Garnes-Bugg of Baskerville, VA; Ciara Smith of South Hill, VA; Charity Staten and Derrick (Courtney) Staten, all of Skipwith, VA; God daughter- Amber Walker of LaCrosse, VA; three sisters- Harriett Harris of South Hill, VA; Mary Gibson of Yonkers, NY and Evelyn Jackson of South Hill, VA; reared alongside as a sister- Gloria Baskerville of LaCrosse, VA; two brothers-in-law, Lander Hendrick, Sr. of LaCrosse, VA and Will Holmes of South Hill, VA; one loyal and devoted friend- Herbert “Stringbean” Alexander of LaCrosse, VA and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends.
