Mother Frances Olivia Johnson, age 101, daughter of the late Henry Lee and Mary Love-Baskerville, was born on January 29, 1924 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. She departed this life on March 5, 2025 at her residence in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Frances is also preceded in death by her brothers, William and James Baskerville; sisters, Betty Sue Rogers and Mary Ann Mayo.
In South Hill, VA, at the age of 8, Frances was baptized at Jerusalem Baptist Church and attended M M Booker School.
In 1943, she married the late Samuel Johnson and from this union 2 daughters were born, Irene and Bernice.
She moved to Newark, New Jersey in the 1950’s to work for Lockheed Electronics where she learned wiring and soldering. She later joined Holy Temple UFWB Baptist Church as a treasurer and later as the church mother under the leadership of Bishop Nathaniel and Evangelist Bernice Burney.
After her retirement, she eventually moved to Fredericksburg, VA. In 1992, she joined Mount Hope Baptist Church where Dr. Raymond A. Bell, Jr. is the pastor. She was a member of The Golden Flyers senior ministry, served on the usher board, worked in the church daycare as a teacher’s assistant and also honored as a church mother.
In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, watching her game shows and soap operas, playing cards and cherished spending time with family, friends and her furbaby Snowball.
Frances leaves to cherish her memory 2 daughters- Rev. Irene (Ronald) Joyner of Durham, NC and Evangelist Bernice (Bishop Nathaniel) Burney of Amelia Court House, VA; 5 grandchildren- Sabrina R. Pope of Jacksonville, FL; Otis Williams of Hampton, VA; Cynthia D. Strickland of Woodbridge, NJ; Elder Robert L.(Cynthia) Cole Jr. of Linden, NJ and Carl (Chandra) Cole Sr. of Green Brook, NJ; 14 great-grands and 15 great-great-grands; a sister- Louise Oliver of Amelia Court House, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A beautiful person on the inside and out, I appreciate the time I spent with you.
