MRS. DORIS ELAINE MONTGOMERY JONES was born July 19, 1959 to the late Junious M. and Evelyn Hayes Montgomery in South Hill, VA. On Wednesday, February 10, 2021 she entered into eternal rest at VCU Medical Center, Richmond, VA. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Montgomery.
At an early age she joined Whittle Grove Baptist Church, South Hill, VA where she was a faithful member. She graduated from Park View Senior High in 1977.
Doris was joined in holy matrimony to Roy Jones on December 18, 1978 and to this union two children were born. Doris employment career included LaCrosse Sports Wear, Lake Apparel, Burlington, and lastly the Department of Corrections for 21 years.
Doris, fondly known as “Kangaroo”, played softball for many years. She enjoyed time spent at the ballpark with her teammates and passed down her love for softball by practicing with her great-granddaughter. She enjoyed having a good time, which was evident by her laughter and love for dancing to good music. She took pride in her yard work and spent as much time as she could outside. To those she knew and loved, Doris could talk for hours about any and everything. She loved a good conversation and had very little “filter” when it came to expressing what was on her mind.
Doris leaves to cherish her memories: her husband- Roy “Crop” Jones; daughter- Sequita (LaTaze) Maddox, Kenbridge, VA; son- Troy Jones of the home; four grandchildren- Shazmia Jones, South Hill, VA; Nije’ Maddox, Richmond, VA; Herbert Maddox, Jr., Kenbridge, VA, and Fallyn Penniston, Virginia Beach, VA; one great-granddaughter- Dai’Mya Hardy, South Hill, VA; grand dog- Colby; two sisters- Shirley Davis, South Hill, VA and Etta (Julius) White, Petersburg, VA; two brothers- James Montgomery (Robin), Henderson, NC and Freddie (Elva) Hayes, South Hill, VA; two brothers-in-law- Johnnie (Jackie) Jones, and Lawrence “Brief” Jones (Genie); five sisters-in-law- Camille Montgomery, Renea (Gordy) Johnson, Shelia (Lyric) Jackson, Melodie Jiggetts, and Rosa Jones; two aunts- Queen Ester Logan, Gretna, VA and Lena Hayes, Richmond, VA; special friends- Valerie Bruce, Michelle Bullock, Pamela Doizer, Laverne Sykes, Delma Johnson, Debbie Jones, and Jennifer Ksor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
