Obituary For Mrs. Sarah Hite Johnson
Memorial Service: Saturday, October 4, 2025/ Time: 11:00 AM/ Amity Baptist Church, 1407 North Mecklenburg Avenue, South Hill, VA 23970/ Rev. Cornelius Ogburn, Pastor
MRS. SARAH ANNE ELIZABETH HITE JOHNSON, 105 years young, daughter of the late Jessie James Hite and Ina Hicks Hite was born August 31, 1920 in Mecklenburg County, VA and departed this life September 14, 2025 at her residence, Kenbridge, VA. She was also preceded in death by her children- James Robert “Buster” and Claudia Williams, and siblings- James Hite, Jessie Hite, Jr., Ruby Lockhart, Florence Williams, Carey, Lewis, and Fred Hite.
At an early age she was baptized and joined Amity Baptist Church and she was a lifetime member. She was graduate of Mecklenburg County Training School.
In 1939 she was married to the late John Robert Johnson and to this union five children were born.
Sarah was employed by Community Memorial Healthcenter for over 40 years until her retirement.
In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, canning, reading, playing games, watching soaps, and taking care of her house plants, in which she had a green thumb.
Sarah leaves to mourn three children- Ina Tinsley of Kenbridge, VA; Linda (Edward) Johnson of Brooklyn, NY and Mildred Springer of Kenbridge, VA; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother- Dennis L. Hite of Phillipsburg, NJ; sister- Lucy Jones of Brodnax, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

My sincere condolences to out to children and family of the late Sarah Hite Johnson who was a neighborhood icon. She was quiet, but resolute in her Christian walk and in her work ethic. She was a pillar at Amity, she will be greatly missed. God bless you all..Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.
