MR. ROBERT ELMO HASKINS, affectionately called “Sweetie” or “Scooby Doo,” son of the late William Wallace Haskins, Sr. and Lucy Belle Seward Haskins was born November 10, 1962 and departed this life June 26, 2025, at his residence in Boydton, VA. He was also preceded in death by his siblings- William Wallace Jr., Helen Louise, Gladys Yvonne, and Jeffrey Scott Haskins.
At an early age Robert was baptized and joined Bethlehem Christian Church, Manson, NC. He attended Park View Senior High School and embarked on a lifelong mission to serve others through his selfless dedication in being a community servant and building a career in construction. Sweetie’s soul touched others in many ways wherever and whenever anyone was in need. His helping hands were filled with compassion, mercy, and grace. He is defined by this verse, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they (Sweetie) shall see God.” Matthew 5:7
Sweetie was known for the simple pleasures of life. He showed great affection around his nieces, nephews, and any kid with a kind and gentle heart. He adored the color purple and he was a Minnesota Vikings fan. Sweetie could place a smile on your face and uplift your spirit just by his presence alone. He was fond of dancing and noted for singing a few notes in his own way. His favorite gospel song, “Ask God in Faith” by Willis Pittman and the Burden Lifters; it reflects his heart, and he lived humbly unto those very words. A grateful, gentle servant he was, and Jesus knows.
Sweetie is the proud and humble father of son- Calvin Wayne Bagley, Jr. of Richmond, VA; one beautiful granddaughter- Nevaeh Lee-Ann Bagley of Dundalk, MD; a sister- Nanie Maxine Haskins of Boydton, VA; brothers- Moses Louis Haskins of South Hill, VA; Steve Ellis (Darcy) Haskins, Sr. of Boydton, VA; Conway Gary Haskins of Grand Forks, ND; Christopher Patrick (Marietta) Haskins; Shelton Darnell (Renee) Haskins, all of Wise, NC and brother-in-law, Wayne Alexander of Boydton, VA. Sweetie shared a special bond with his loving caregiver, sister-in-law, confidant, and dear friend- Renee G. Haskins, and a host nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who were blessed to have known his kind and generous soul. His memory will forever remain a source of strength and love to all who had the honor of knowing Sweetie. “He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.” - Isaiah 40:29
