MR. STEVE ELLIS HASKINS, SR, affectionately known as “Stink”, “Stevie,” or “Stinkum” by all, son of the late William Wallace Haskins, Sr. and the late Lucy Belle Seward Haskins was born May 1, 1960, in Palmer Springs, VA and departed this life May 24, 2026, at 2:37 AM in Henrico Doctor’s Hospital Henrico, VA. He was also preceded in death by his son- Steve Ellis Haskins, Jr.; siblings- William “Dilly” Wallace Haskins, Jr; Helen “Pookey” Louise Alexander (Wayne); Robert “Sweetie” Elmo, Gladys Yvonne, and Jeffrey Scott Haskins.

At an early age, Steve was baptized and joined Bethlehem Christian Church, Manson NC. As a young adult, Steve worked on the family farm and helped others on their homesteads. He attended Park View Senior High School where he was a local football hero, graduating in 1978. He decided to enlist in the United States Army and separated after four years of dedication to this great country.

Stink relocated to Long Island NY where he met and then married Donna Evans. They had three young lads there, Lil’ Steve, Jeff, and Burdell. They uprooted and moved back to Palmer Springs, VA. Here, Donna and Steve gave birth to three additional kids for six total while he pursued a long tenure in road and bridge construction. Steve helped others in ways before debilitating health limited his mobility. He is defined by this bible verse, “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also; knowing that tribulations worketh patience; and patience, experience, and experience hope,” Romans 5:3-4.

Steve was a resolute, yet simple in his delights for life. Stink shared wittiness around those he felt who genuinely welcomed his heart. He was steadfast and determined throughout his walk in life. His walk in life was built around raising six young men while finding time to work away from home, fish, attend his sons’ sporting events, and supported the local Palmer Springs Community Center events. His favorite sport teams were the Los Angeles Lakers, the NY Yankees and the Miami Dolphins. Those close to his heart would receive a genuine smile and reciprocating love.

Steve is the proud and humble father of five sons- Jeffrey Scott (Rakita) Haskins of Palmer Springs, VA; Burdell Eugene Haskins of Big Fork, VA; Christopher Patrick Haskins of South Hill, VA; Anthony Dwayne Haskins of Emporia, VA and Keith Maurice Haskins of Colorado Springs, CO; he leaves to mourn: a sister- Nannie “Max” Louis Haskins of Palmer Springs, VA; four brothers- Moses “Mann” Louis Haskins of South Hill, VA; Conway “Boo” Gary Haskins of Grand Forks, ND; Christopher “Chris” Patrick Haskins (Felicia) and Shelton Darnell (Renee) Haskins, all of Wise, NC. Steve is cherished by an extended family which includes 23 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends who were blessed to have known his own unique style and character. Steve will always remain a source of strength and tenacity to all. “Stinkum” leaves with this:
