TRUSTEE WILLIAM SUBER, JR, affectionately known as “Tit”, son of the late William Suber, Sr. and the late Addie Butler Suber was born June 8, 1936, in Newberry, SC. He departed this life November 17, 2025, in VCU-Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill, VA.
At an early age he attended Miller Chapel AME Church, where he was an active participant of the Junior church and Youth Choir.
William attended the public schools of Newberry County, SC and was a graduate of Gallman High School Class of 1955. He was a star basketball player and earned an athletic scholarship to Allen University in Columbia, SC.
After college William matriculated to New York where he met his future wife, Earsely Jones. They were later married in 1963 and to this union four children were born. They later joined Allen AME Church, Queens, NY, where he was a member of the Senior Usher Board.
Upon retirement from New York City Department of Justice, William and his family moved to South Hill, VA. They later became members of Lambert's Chapel RZUA Church where he served as a Trustee.
William was not ready to fully retire, so he became a substitute teacher for 13 years with the Mecklenburg County Public School System. He was also a member and treasurer of the United Social Club as well as treasurer of the local NAACP Chapter.
William was preceded in death by his wife- Earsely Jones Suber, son- Michael, and sister- Mary Suber Carter.
Those who cherish loving memories are his daughter- Constance Suber of Richmond, VA; sons- Dexter Suber and Charles Suber of the home; two grandchildren- Dexter Slayton and Kaitlin Suber; one great-grandchild- Kyre Slayton; brother- Grady (Mary ) Suber of Newberry, SC; two brothers-in-law, Alpheus L. Jones of South Hill, VA and Gilbert Jones, Sr. of Richmond, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
I was saddened to hear of Mr. Suber's passing. He was a very nice man. I send my sincere condolences to the family and friends. May light perpetual shine upon him.
So sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Suber at twin lakes he was always happy to see me when I visited my brother .
