We are deeply saddened at the passing of our friend, one Deacon Emeritus J.L. Vaughn. J.L. and my older sister, Mary L. Montgomery were classmates at Main High and both graduated from Main High the same year. When I arrived at Knoxville College in 1953,J.L. was there as an Army Veteran working on his college degree. I was honored after uniting with Lovejoy Baptist Church to have been asked by Pastor Ingram to serve as Chairperson of The Reverend J.L. Vaughn Scholarship Program and a few years following, with Pastor Ingram's approval, the Program included a Tracking component. Deacon Vaughn was very passionate about this Ministry and spearheaded the awarding of scholarships to deserving students who were members of Lovejoy every year. What a Legacy, among others!!John worked with J.L. on Lovejoy' s Deacon Ministry and with The 100 Black Men of Rome, Inc., both Founding Members of the 100 of Rome. To the Vaughn Family and Friends, we extend our sincere sympathy and condolences that you will find great Comfort and Peace in so many wonderful Memories that will last a Lifetime. J.L. is at Rest and we will see him again....Love and Blessings to this beautiful Family...John and Laney Stevenson

December 26, 2023 Please accept our sincere condolences for your loss. We are heartbroken by the passing of JL. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend; a great teacher and "fabulous chef." His barbecued ribs were the best ever. I don't know if we will ever find any other ribs as good as his. We always enjoyed his warm hospitality, interesting and frank discussions, sense of humor, and generosity. Phil will always remember and miss sharing time to smoke a cigar with JL. We pray that Esther, Ken, Kevin, and Kim find peace and embrace JL's wonderful gift of memories, while we do the same. We love you. Sincerely, Gwen & Phillip Whitt Silver Spring, MD
