Edward R. Washington was born in Uriah, Alabama on August 18, 1936, to the late Minnie Mae Washington Lynch and Andrew Washington. On Saturday, January 9, 2021, God called Edward to his eternal resting place.

Edward graduated from Washington High School in 1955 and attended Washington Jr. College, in Pensacola, Florida. He served in the United States Army from November 16, 1956 to January 14, 1958, receiving an Honorable discharge. During the Civil Rights Movement he worked as an Insurance Agent for Atlanta Life Insurance Company in Montgomery, Alabama under the supervision and mentorship of the legendary Civil Rights Activist, Mrs. Johnnie Carr. In 1962, his fiancé, the late Hattie Elmore Washington moved to Rome, Georgia to accept a teaching position and he followed her. He became employed at General Electric on January 6, 1964 and remained there until his retirement on October 31, 1993. Edward was the Owner/Operator of Washington Fence Company for over 45 years. Edward was a devoted member of Lovejoy Baptist Church where he served on the Laymen’s Board, Male Chorus and Mass Choir, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Summer Explosion Camp Assistant and Cub Scout Den Leader. Outside of his service to his church, his greatest pleasure was deep sea fishing with his longtime friends and family members.
