Marvin Smith was born in Atlanta, GA in Grady Hospital on September 7, 1941 to Marvin Smith and Flora Adele Bishop Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert and David Smith and grandson Larry Hyde. Marvin went to glory on the morning July 1, 2022.
Marvin was educated in Florida, Georgia and Ohio. He was employed by the Ohio Youth Commission and worked with juvenile delinquents. In Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation in Florida he worked as a youth coordinator and recreational specialist. He retired as a HON worker from the Cedartown facility. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching Sunday School, Bible Study and acting as associate minister at First Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Rockmart, GA.
He is survived by Beverly his wife of 47 years. He leaves to mourn two brothers Dallas Smith (Linda) of Columbus, Ohio and Michael Smith (Barbara) of Tampa, Florida. His Aunt Janice e and Uncle Sam Bishop live in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. He loved all of his children: Tammy Franklin (Columbus, OH), Marvina (Fred) Leatherwood of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Vita Smith and Gerard Goforth Sr. (both in Bluffton, S.C.), and Shawn (Shanda) Craig (Rowlett, Texas). Stephanie Craig, Sheryl (Ron) Wilson, (all of Columbus, Ohio). The grandchildren are Craig Aubrey ,Shelby, Co’Meh, Travis, Marcus, Rion, Carmese, Freddy, N’sya, Kyren, Jaylen, Gerard Jr. Cristina, and Chauntelle. Great-grandchildren are Emmaley, Leona, Legend, Jenari Khimera, Creedence, Kye’Reu, Shawn III, Jewellyanna, Isabella, Ramina. And there are many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Marvin Smith, 80 of Rockmart, GA transitioned on Friday, July 1, 2022. We will Celebrate the Life of Mr. Marvin Smith on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 12 noon at First Zion Baptist Church in Rockmart, Ga. Interment will follow the service at Pol Memory Gardens (Cedartown).
**Public viewing will be held at First Zion Baptist on Friday, July 8, 2022 from 11 am until the funeral hour.
