Obituary For Alberta "Baby Ann" Simms Jones

OPELOUSAS – Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church in Opelousas, LA for Ms. Alberta Simms Jones, affectionately known by her family and friends as “Big Ann”, 64, who entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at Ochsner University Hospital and Clinic in Lafayette, LA. Interment will be in Garden of Memory Cemetery in Opelousas, LA.

Apostle C.L. Shepherd, Sr. will be officiating the funeral service.

Ms. Jones’ memories are being cherished by: her two sons, Challis (Courtney) Simms of Houston, TX and Quentin (April) Jones of Opelousas, LA; three daughters, Chenese Strong (Sheldon) of Houston, TX, Daie Jones of Lafayette, LA and Laporschea Jones (Charles) of Opelousas, LA; three brothers, Larry Rosette, Perry Simms and Johnny Simms, all of Opelousas, LA; nine sisters, Shirley Zachary (Joseph), Jennifer Simms and Genita Pierre (William), all of Opelousas, LA, Dianae Johnson, Sherrie Hayes (Kirt) and Mattie Lazard, all of Houston, TX, Evelyn Johnson (Barry) and Tracy Lathan, both of Baton Rouge, LA and Priscilla Simms of Melville, LA; a loving companion, Carl Davis of Rayne, LA; sixteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, Godchildren, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Rosalie Mildred Rosette Simms, Sr. and three brothers, Willard Simms, Sr., Felton Simms and Clifford Lathan.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church.
