Obituary For Arthur Lee Thierry
OPELOUSAS – Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 830 Pulford St., Opelousas, LA, for Mr. Arthur Lee Thierry, 89, affectionately known by his family and friends as “Buddy”. Mr. Thierry entered eternal rest on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at his residence in Opelousas, LA. Interment will be in Garden of Memory Cemetery in Opelousas, LA.

Mr. Thierry was currently the oldest member of Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church and President of the Board of Trustees. He served the church in many capacities such as being a member of the Usher Board, Male Chorus President and being selected in 2018 as the church’s Father. He served as President of the St. Landry Gravity Drainage District #14 and was formerly a member of AFL-CI0.
Mr. Thierry’s memories are being cherished by: his daughter, Sheredia Denson (Larry, Sr.) of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren, Justin Ryan Johnson, Garret Andrew Reaux, Kenya Denson, Kameron Denson, Larry Denson, Jr., Gemeka Griffin and Shante Story, all of Jacksonville, FL; twelve great grandchildren; his God child, Kandice Castille of Opelousas, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mr. Thierry is preceded in death by: his wife, Earline Jones Thierry; his parents, Leonce and Harriet Joseph Thierry; five brothers, Freddie, Fred, Clarence, Arthur James and James Thierry; and eight sisters, Gustavia Camerson, Mable Thierry Joubert, Gladys Thierry Jones, Agnes Thierry Chavis, Carrie Mae Thierry Brown, Dorothy Thierry Thompson, Harriet Thierry and Annie Lee Thierry Robinson.
Visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Greater St. James Baptist Church.
