OPELOUSAS – Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026 at Ford and Joseph Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA for Mr. Darrell James Thomas, 70, who entered eternal rest on Friday, July 10, 2026 at The Carpenter’s House in Lafayette, LA.
Rev. Kenneth Smith, Pastor of Cathedral of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Lake Charles, LA, will be officiating the funeral service.
Mr. Thomas’ memories are being cherished by: his wife, Diane Bellard Thomas of Church Point, LA; two sons, Damien (Shacoria) Thomas of Opelousas, LA and Ferandon Lewis of Church Point, LA; two daughters, Chastity Renee Sterling (Mark) of Lafayette, LA and Deundra Nicole Bellard of Church Point, LA; two bonus sons he helped raise, Wallace Alexander and Curtis (Porsha) Alexander; two bonus daughters he helped raise, Tanesha Bellard of Liburn, GA and Dominique Alexander of Lafayette, LA; five sisters, Savannah Griffin of Port Arthur, TX, Mary Jackson and Barbara West, both of Opelousas, LA, Selena Clemons (Frank) of Lake Charles, LA and Alonzetta Gabriel of Springfield, MA; one sister-in-law, Barbara Thomas of Opelousas, LA; three Godchildren, Damon Adams of Raleigh, NC, Ashanti Newman of Opelousas, LA and Latoya Shallow of California; seventeen grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by: his parents, Rev. Wilton and Selena Miles Thomas, Sr.; three brothers, Rev. Joseph Thomas, Sr., Rev. Robert Thomas, Sr. and Wilton Thomas, Jr.; and one sister, Lori Ann Green.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Ford and Joseph Funeral Home.
