EDWARD THOMAS, SR.

OPELOUSAS - Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at St. Mark Baptist Church, 3461 Highway 167, Opelousas, LA for Mr. Edward Thomas, Sr. , affectionately known by his family and friends as “Preacher” and “Merrick”, 85, who entered eternal rest on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at his residence in Opelousas, LA.

Rev. Jason Rubin, pastor of St. Mark Baptist Church, will be officiating the funeral service.

Mr. Thomas leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Octavia Marie Tezeno Thomas of Opelousas, LA; one son, Edward Thomas, Jr. (Kimarka) of Opelousas, LA; two daughters, Wanda Gail Guilbeaux (Robert) of Opelousas, LA and Albertha Casimere (Corey) of Hockley, TX; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by: his parents, Willis and Elvisa Valary Thomas; three brothers, James, Jonathan and John Thomas; and two sisters, Leatha Mae King and Betty Washington.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Ford and Joseph Funeral Home.
