Obituary For JoeAnn Smith Tyler

PALMETTO – Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at New Pilgrim Baptist Church in Palmetto, LA for Mrs. JoeAnn Smith Tyler, 65, who entered eternal rest on Friday, August 14, 2026 in Baton Rouge, LA.

Pastor Darrell Sampson, Sr., Pastor of New Pilgrim Baptist Church, will be officiating the funeral service.

JoeAnn was a native of Lake Charles, LA. She grew up in Palmetto with her grandparents and later moved to Opelousas. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church under the leadership of her grandfather, Reverend James A. Smith, and later attended New Pilgrim Baptist Church. She was the former Executive Director of the Opelousas Housing Authority.

She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Trayvis (Lauri) Tyler, Tevin (Charissa Yiluy) Tyler, both of Baton Rouge, LA; seven sisters, Doris Ann (David) Stelly of Pearland, Texas, Dianne Smith, Debra Harmon, Brenda (Michael) Brooks, Leona (Gregory) Griffin, and Linda Smith, all of Lake Charles, LA, Lisa (Reginald) Reynolds of Baton Rouge, LA; three brothers, Joseph H. (Deborah Kennerson) Smith, Jr., James Smith, and John Derrick (Letitia) Smith, all of Lake Charles, LA; two grandsons, Evin Tyler and Amari Tyler; one granddaughter, Aurielle Tyler; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Randall Tyler; son, Terrance Tyler; parents, Joseph Smith Sr. and Pearlie Williams Smith; and sisters, Shirley Favors and Rose Smith.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at New Pilgrim Baptist Church.
