FENTON - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Greater St. Joseph Baptist Church in the Fenton, LA for Mrs. Morena “Marine” Johnson Caleb, 75, who passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Oschner Medical Center in New Orleans, LA. Interment will be in the Rosehill cemetery.
Pastor Arnold Wykoff, Pastor of Greater St. Joseph Baptist Church, will be officiating the funeral services.
Marine was a devout Christian and former first lady who consistently gave service as prayer line leader, newsletter editor, church board secretary and many other committees throughout her life. In 2009, she achieved her lifelong dream of getting a college degree with a Bachelor’s of Theology from Bolden Seminary.
She accomplished another lifelong dream of becoming an author with the publication of her first book in 2010, Surely I Know There is a God. She went on to write 16 more books.
Marine was preceded in death by: her husband, Rev. Wesley Daniel Caleb; her parents, Horace “Clin” Johnson and Elvina Jack Johnson; and her siblings, Alfred Johnson, Lou Wilda Garrett, Curley Johnson, Sr., and Julia Young.
Marine is survived by her three children, Rosalind Gathers (Cornelius) of Charlotte, NC, Anita Taylor of Pasadena, CA and Robert Taylor III of Baton Rouge, LA; her grandchildren Corey Gathers of Tampa, FL, Cody Gathers of Boston, MA, Kaleia Martin and Jasmine Gathers of Charlotte, NC; her siblings Melizar Johnson of Ville Platte, Herbert Thomas of Baton Rouge, Olean Carver of Houston, TX, Ollie Edward (John) of Long Beach, CA, Frank Johnson and David (Denise) Johnson of Washington, LA; and a large extended family.
