**UPDATED FUNERAL INFORMATIONPOSTPONED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER**
OPELOUSAS – Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, 621 Narrow Street, Opelousas, LA for Ms. Nancy Winfrey Pierre. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Interment will be held in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, LA.
On November 17, 1948 in a little house on Halphen St. in Opelousas Louisiana God breathed life into the child of Charles Winfrey Sr. and Anna Belle Kimble Winfrey. They named the infant Nancy Lee Winfrey. Nancy was raised serving the Lord right her in Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. With the voice of an angel she praised God from child, to youth, to mixed, to glorynets choirs. She graduated from the all black high school J. S. Clark. Her quest for knowledge did not end there. After earning her industrial welding certificate she went on to Delta Business College, which prepared her for her future career as a Medicare Specialist for St. Landry Parish. As a loving mother of many three of them biological her strength and grace endured even through the death of her precious baby boy Thomas Braxton Pierre.
On January 13, 2026 Nancy went home to her father and mother. She joined her brothers Donald Winfrey and Charles Winfrey Jr. and his wife Bobbie. Her sisters Dianna Lewis, Jacqueline Williams, and Angie Myles were waiting at the gates.
Left here to cherish her memory are her sister Cynthis Winfrey, brothers Wesley Winfrey Sr. and Kenneth Winfrey of Opelousas LA, Daniel Winfrey Sr. and his wife Cynthia of Baton Rogue LA, Craig Winfrey Sr. and his wife Mary of Houston TX, and Charles Christopher Winfrey Myles, III of Los Angeles CA and her brother-in-law Chester Lewis, Sr. husband to Dianna.
Nancy's guidance and wisdom will be sorely missed by her son Barron Winfrey of Opelousas, her daughter and son-in-law Vanessa and Mark Hesser four grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren of St. Michael MN Three step daughters Terry Lewis, Carlene Pierre, Pauline Lebine, four step sons Keith, Charles Jr., Patrick, and James Pierre, 34 grandchildren,37 great grandchildren and 3 great grandbabies in heaven. Also to cherish her memory are multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and chosen family. What a beautiful legacy for a beautiful soul.
Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service at Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church.
