Obituary For Peter Shelvin

OPELOUSAS – Private viewing service for the IMMEDIATE FAMILY ONLY will be held on Friday, May 8, 2020 at Ford and Joseph Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA for Mr. Peter Shelvin, 81, who entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Opelousas General Health System. Interment will be in Garden of Memory Cemetery in Opelousas LA.

Mr. Shelvin’s memories are being cherished by: his wife, Viola Shelvin of Port Barre, LA; seven sons, Bryant Shelvin (Hattie) of Port Barre, LA, Andre Tremble (Felicia) and Floyd Andrus (Christine), both of Opelousas, LA, Bruce Shelvin (Kendra) of New Orleans, LA, Bryant Payne (Annette) and Troy Shelvin, both of Port Barre, LA and Terrin Levier (Tarsha) of Columbus, SC; five daughters, Shelia Shelvin of Port Barre, LA, Debra Shelvin (Darrell) of New Orleans, LA, Wendy Bolden (Wayne) of Port Barre, LA, KaTasha Smith of Manning, SC and Giselle Shelvin of Port Barre, LA; one brother, Joseph Shelvin (Carolyn) of Harvey, LA; four sisters, Thelma Pickney of Port Barre, LA, Lucille Sereal of Houston, TX, Selena Pugh of New Orleans, LA and Velma Henry (Albert) of Larose, LA; three Godchildren, Elaine Shelvin, Michael Mallet and Charonda Tigler; a loving family friend, Hattie Gilbert; an inherited daughter, Tracey Shelvin; close friends, Matthew Fisher, George Thomas, Zane Savoy, Joseph Charles and Larry Casper; 24 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by: his parents, Joseph and Gertrude Chenier Shelvin; one son, Peter Shalvin, Jr.; four brothers, Albert Johnson, Joseph Benjamin, Antoine Shelvin and Leroy Shelvin; and one sister, Vergie Albert.
