OPELOUSAS – Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at First Benjamin Baptist Church, 4228 LA 357, Opelousas, LA for Rev. Haney Green, Sr., 91, who entered eternal rest on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at his residence in Opelousas, LA. Interment will be held in Garden of Memory Cemetery in Opelousas, LA.
Rev. Albert Tezeno will be officiating the funeral service.
Rev. Green was a member of Mohorn Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Southern University. He was a veteran of the United States Army, a retired educator, and retired from the US Dept. of Agriculture as a Soil Conservationist. He was a member of the following organizations: Agro Men Society. Cattlemen Association, Louisiana High School Officials Association, NAACP, Prairie Ronde Water System Board Member and Fox’s Social Club.
Rev. Green’s memories are being cherished by: his loving wife of 45 years, Mrs. Shirley Dugar Green of Opelousas, LA; one son, Paul (Yvette) Fontenot of Everette, WA; five daughters, Mona Wilkins (Myron), Kayla Tezeno (Roderick) and Felicia Brazier (Tommy), all of Opelousas, LA, Marie Andree Checkley (Earl) of Upper Marlboro, MD and Dawn Morale (Amos) of Missouri City, TX; thirteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his son, Haney Green, Jr.; parents, Mr. Frederick Green and Mrs. Velma Hollier Green; two brothers, Alfred and Alex Green; and two sisters, Leeanna Pitre and Leona Tezeno.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at First Benjamin Baptist Church.
