Funeral Service for Mrs. Ebonique VaSha Harris of Ohatchee will be 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Leatherwood Baptist Church - 2709 Old Gadsden Hwy - Anniston, AL. Loyial James Williams, III, Eulogist and Interment at Oak Bowery Baptist Church – Ohatchee. Public viewing will be 5 PM – 8 PM on Friday, April 2, 2021 at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church – 2064 Grayton Road – Ohatchee, AL.
Ebonique VaSha Harris was born to the late Willie and Barbara Harris in Los Angeles, California on April 3, 1982. She was the baby sister of Willie Harris Jr (Talandria), LaTashia Harris (Ernesto), and Rayvion Harris. Ebonique is survived by her husband, Garnett Thomas and two children, Domonique D. Thomas and Ontarriah S. Braxton.
Ebonique was an athletic child, a self-proclaimed “Tom Boy”. She participated in multiple sports and earned an athletic scholarship for softball. She earned an Associate’s degree from Easonian Bible College and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Jacksonville State University. After completing her degree, she served in the US Army National Guard for 4 years. After completing her military service, she continued to serve the community as a caseworker with the Department of Human Resources (DHR).
Ebonique accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She used the teachings to raise her children to follow Christ and be a positive influence to everyone they come in contact with. She was a natural born leader and the secretary of Mothers On a Mission (MOM), an organization established by her and her sister, LaTashia. Her greatest joy was the active moments of being a mother and sharing in the successes of her children. She set high expectations and standards for herself and her children and taught them to strive for excellence. She was a very active mother, contributing to every facet of their lives, scholastically and morally. She was her children’s greatest cheerleader and supporter as she attended multiple sporting events, banquets, Honor Roll nominations, various volunteer events and anything else her children were involved or interesting in.
Ebonique was a genuine person with a wonderful balance of love, humor, compassion, and sternness. Children would gravitate to her and she impacted the lives of many family members and friends. She leaves behind her two children and a host of nieces and nephews.
