It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Mrs. Joe Ann Johnson, of Gadsden, AL.
Mrs. Joe Ann Johnson was born to the parents Jerry Hill and Katie Montgomery Hill. She departed this life peacefully at her home on April 29, 2025, at 8:14 A.M.
She received her education from Carver High School. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of the Macedonia Baptist Church where she served as President of the Usher Board. President of the Missionary Society and Co-Chairman of the church anniversary for many years. She was also a faithful member of the TRI City Usher Council. She was a dedicated caregiver and loved to iron for many people. She was the last living member of the Tamalot Social Club for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Katie Mae Hill; a son, Donald Lee Johnson; granddaughter, Tamike Rena Collins; brothers, Jerry Hill, Jr. and Alphonza Montgomery; sisters, Minnie Sharp, Burley A. Russell and Omie Curry; son-in-law, Joseph Collins.
She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Marian (Larry) McAdams of Crestview, FL, Charlotte Hughes, Denise (Pete) Collins, Shelia (Robert) Holston, Wilma Jordan and Pamela (John) Ash, all of Gadsden, AL; sons, Richard (Joyce) Johnson of Gadsden, AL and Johnny (Renia) Johnson of Jackson TN; sister, Clara McGhee of Inkster, MI; 71 grandchildren; special cousin, Bertha Fleetwood; several nieces and nephews; adopted children, Rev. B.J. & Mrs. Gloria Price; special friends, Effie Dean Williams, Jessie Rawls and the Ash Family.
PUBLIC VIEWING: Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Gadsden Memorial Funeral Home.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 1:00 PM on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Macedonia Baptist Church - 113 Coosa Street - Gadsden, AL 35901
INTERMENT: Turkeytown Cemetery
