Funeral service for Noble Cylar will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with interment in Crestwood Cemetery.
Noble was a strong advocate for civil rights and a lifelong, active member of the NAACP. He met and marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and served as a fair housing tester, helping to ensure that people were not denied housing because of their race, color, national origin or ancestry, religion or sex.
He volunteered at local voting precincts almost every election and found great pleasure in serving as a board member of the Quality of Life Health Service for 18 years and as Board President for the last nine years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Cylar and Minnie Broomfield Cylar; seven siblings, Mary, John, Benny, Willie, Lillian, Thomas and Andrew; and two children, Zanoria Wise and Noble Lamont Cylar.
Noble leaves to cherish his memory: loving and devoted children, Kevin Cylar (Carol) of Powder Springs, Georgia and Lisa Cylar Barrett (Charles) of McLean, Virginia; grandchildren, Candice McKissic, Eugene Wise (Tawana), Michael McKissic, Alexis Wise and Miles Miller; sister, Dot Haire (Nehemiah) of Youngstown, Ohio; sisters-in-Law, Mary Cylar, Emma Cylar and Marie Cylar, all of Attalla; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and extended family; longtime and faithful companion, Nettie McCurdy; and many, many dear friends.
