When someone we love passes away, it should mean something. It should remind us of their good deeds that touched the lives of those who knew them. It should remind us of the charity they gave to keep their memory alive. It should remind us of the knowledge they shared that enlightened others. That's the legacy of Aunt Mildred. When we show our hearts real love and patience, God's love keeps growing and flowing! If you felt a bit depleted before seeing Auntie, we always felt refreshed when you left. Your love for her grew with each visit or call. You always felt seen and heard with her. She once said, "You can be honest with God about everything; you can always trust that what you tell him stays with him." She never forgot your kindness, acts of love, and generosity. Once when we were visiting the porch light had blown, we changed it and laughed and said, well your light is on again. So don't get it twisted, we want you safe. And from then on, before leaving or hanging up, she would say, "My light is still on, so don't get it twisted." That was our inside joke. It was always a family history lesson with her in casual conversation; she could ease your mind and replace the question marks with a period. It was amazing how sharp her memory was and how much she had lived through, and her faith never wavered. The saddest goodbye is the one you never get the chance to say. I can just imagine when she heard her name called, her spirit was rejoicing as she saw Jesus face to face; she whispered, "My heart has heard you say, Come and walk with me. And my heart responds, 'Lord, I am coming', as she did her final walk-through in her earthly vessel and stepped into her glorified body in her forever home, she was greeted with her crown, angels singing, loved ones waiting with open arms, and banners saying, "Well done and welcome home, good and faithful servant; this is your spiritual awakening the journey is over, you've reached your destination, you can rest and be at peace and behold, the old has passed away the fresh and new has come!" We love you Auntie and you will remain in our hearts forever...
