Mamie R. Smith
Funeral Services for Mrs. Mamie R. Smith of Anniston will be Sunday, August 27, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., at New Hope Baptist Church in Hobson City, with Reverend Dennis Mckinney, Eulogist. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens in Anniston, AL. Visitation will be Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Goodson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mamie R. Smith was born to the parents of the late Prince Albert and Queenie Wynn in Childersburg, Alabama, on December 10, 1935. Mamie accepted Christ at an early age. She joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church later in life and was a faithful member.
She was employed at Blue Mountain Industries as a thread winder for over 35 years and then retired. Mamie was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star (Mamie Pride #371) and the Glendale Social and Savings Club. She loved shopping, doing word search puzzles, watching Family Feud, talking on the phone to friends and family, and attending family gatherings.
On August 21, 2023, she departed her temporary earthly home to begin her heavenly journey. Her last moments were under the care of her family. They ensured that her last days were comfortable and full of love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Frederick Woolverton; grandchildren, Nicole Carter, Dashia Angel, Jordaneous Woolverton; her sisters, Ruby L. Harris, Mary L. English, Queen E. Wynn, Patricia Wynn; longtime companion Eunice Elston and her son-in-law, Stevie Houston.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories: her children, Joyce Houston and Christopher Woolverton of Anniston, AL; Melody (Kelvin) Taylor of Oxford, AL; Valeria Woolverton of Roanoke, TX; Debra (Earnest) Huggins of Midland, GA; Wanda (Milton) Walker of Jacksonville, FL; Dennis (Kikina) Woolverton of Columbus, GA; Douglas (Denita) Woolverton of Colonial Heights, VA; 34 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Minor (Ruth) Wynn of Anniston, AL; her sisters, Sandra (Michael) Gilliam of Anniston, AL; Betty Brown and Annie Yancey of Rockford, Illinois; Brenda G. Wynn of Madison, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church Family and friends.
