Obituary For Mary Askew

Mary E. Askew was born to Artis and Louise Owens on August 19, 1944, in Anniston, Alabama.

She became a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Anniston, Alabama at an early age and later joined Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral guidance of William Fields. Mary retired from Jacksonville Medical Center after serving over 30 years, starting as a unit secretary and later obtaining a degree as an LPN.

She was preceded in death by both parents, Artis and Louise Owens; two brothers, Artis James (Jimmy) Owens Jr. (Callie), and Crendel Owens; and a sister, Theresa (Paul) Lemons. Mary will truly be missed by: her children, Shaeffer Coleman and Christina Belmont, both of Anniston; siblings, Earline Penn of Anniston, Wendell (Odessa) Owens of Saks, and Shelia (Gerry) Green of Weaver; five grandchildren, Marcus Goodman, Khalil Smith, Arielle Coleman, Darion Coleman, and Khamar Pickens; five great-grandchildren, Kamrun Murray, Tiana Rae Springer, Mi'Joi Murray, Harmoni Ford, and Zaria Goodman; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends who will greatly miss her. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
