Edward Lee Watson July 15, 1955 – October 9, 2025

Edward Lee Watson, 70, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, Maryland.

Born on July 15, 1955, in Wabbaseka, Arkansas, Edward was the beloved son of the late Carrie Lee Watson and Willie Robinson. He was a proud graduate of Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where he earned dual degrees in Drama and Speech in 1979. During his college years, he pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. through the Theta Alpha Chapter at Henderson State University, forming lifelong bonds with his fraternity brothers.

Before joining the military, Edward worked as an insurance salesman. His life took a new direction when a Navy recruiter convinced him he could “see the world.” Edward often joked, “He didn’t lie about seeing the world—he just didn’t tell me I’d be sailing for days and months at a time to get to port to see it.” He went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service.

Edward was a sociable and spirited man, especially with those he held dear. He loved spending time with family, friends, his fraternity brothers, and his military buddies—sharing stories, laughter, and camaraderie that left lasting impressions on everyone around him.

While stationed at sea, Edward expressed his love and devotion through poetry, sending heartfelt verses to his mother, sister, and wife. These poems became treasured keepsakes—Gloria McCray Watson, whom he married on May 25, 1990 in Jacksonville, Florida, still holds them close and cherishes them to this day.

Though their union was not blessed with children, Edward and Gloria shared a life marked by profound affection and unwavering companionship. Edward was a cherished presence at the neighborhood church, frequently attending services alongside his beloved wife, Gloria, a devoted member of Ft. Foote Baptist Church. Within its walls, he found spiritual nourishment and a welcoming community that enriched his life. Known for his gracious demeanor, quick wit, and eloquence, Edward held a deep appreciation for the arts and the power of public speaking, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carrie and Willie. He is survived by his sister, Joyce Robinson of Benton Harbor, Michigan; a host of cousins in central Arkansas; and many cherished military and fraternity brothers who will remember him fondly.

Edward’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His life was a testament to service, scholarship, creativity, and brotherhood.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Edward’s memory to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, an organization dedicated to supporting sailors, Marines, and their families in times of need. Contributions may be made online at https://www.nmcrs.org.
