Ira Mckoy Jr., 75, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at his home in Alexandria, Virginia. Born on July 26, 1949, in Wilmington, North Carolina, Ira lived a life defined by perseverance, faith, and dedication to his family.

From his early years worshipping at Roseville Missionary Baptist Church, Ira’s deep-rooted faith remained a guiding presence throughout his life. Though he did not complete high school, his determination and strong work ethic led him to build a respected career in facilities management. Through commitment and resilience, he rose to manage janitorial crews and contracts at two of the nation’s most prominent institutions—the Pentagon and the World Bank.

The year 1983 marked a turning point in Ira’s life. He was honored with the Supervisor of the Year award and celebrated the birth of his daughter—milestones that reflected both his professional accomplishments and personal joy.

Ira found fulfillment in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed tending to his garden and took pride in maintaining a pristine yard. Weekends often included backyard volleyball games or cheering on his favorite NFL and NBA teams, especially the Washington Redskins.

He was a devoted husband to Rosa Mckoy, a loving father to Tania Robinson, and a proud father-in-law to Jeff Robinson. His grandsons, Jayden and Julian Robinson, were the light of his later years.

Ira was preceded in death by his father Ira Mckoy Sr., mother Mattie Newkirk, and sister Darneller Frenchie Newkirk. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, daughter, son-in-law, grandsons. (Seven) Nephews: Andre Hicklen, Eddie Mckoy, Brad Patterson (Opal), Cedric Newton (Selika), Robert Herbie Newton, Steven Newton, Marvin Newkirk (Gina), Carlos Brooks. (11) Great Nephews: Cedric Newton Jr., Corey Green Jr., Roddrick Newton (Shenece), Broddrick Newton (Aliciana), Kendrick Newton, David Smith (Kelley), Deveraux Smith, Justin Harper, Leon Harper, Jeremiah Patterson, Elijah Mckoy, Delonte Johnson, Devon Brooks, Elijah Newkirk. (5) Great Nieces: Vonda Mckoy, Shannon Mckoy, Faith Mckoy, Serena Harper, Kimberly West, Destiny Newkirk, Shanell Newkirk.
