On January 12, 2021, our beloved mother, Caroline Evans, went home to be with Jesus at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, VA. She was born to Carrie Helen Whitener on October 18, 1941, in Lincolnton, NC.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Marie Mills, a granddaughter, Shanae (Tiger) Gillespie; and four siblings, Peggy Ann Evans, George Evans, David Evans, and Richard Evans; and a great-granddaughter, Rayona Shanae Howard.
Caroline attended the John Chavis High School in Cherryville, NC. and was a member of the Providence Baptist Church, Lincolnton, NC. Caroline possessed a jovial personality. She was a great jokester and loved to talk, laugh and entertain her family and friends with her jokes. Cooking was a true joy to Caroline. Her life was fulfilled as she served as a cook at the Lincolnton County Hospital. She also enjoyed cooking and keeping an open door at her home to feed family, friends and strangers. Caroline also found pleasure in planting beautiful flowers.
Caroline leaves to cherish her memory: four daughters, Mary Peake (Anthony), Richmond, VA; Willie Mae Wright (Herman Harris), Lincolnton, NC; Chriss Gillespie (Michael Singleton), Richmond, VA; Stella Evans (Allen Asbell), Lincolnton, NC; a son, Howard Gillespie, Richmond, VA; three sisters, Myrtle Shipp, Maggie B. Evans, Alberta Hall, all of Lincolnton, NC.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; and other relatives and friends.
