Deontae L. Dameron was born in Gaston County on December 19, 1992 to the late Eva Mae Dameron and the late Harlong Leroy Green. He transitioned from his earthly home on Friday; September 3, 2021.
Deon, as he was affectionately called, was a pleasant young man. He like to kid around and make people laugh. One day I was going to the dentist in Charlotte and Deon asked how much further did we have to go. I didn’t want to tell him that I was lost, so I told him we had a little bit farther to go down the road. Deon loved to eat. His favorite meat was fried chicken. He loved the way I cooked. He said that I should open a restaurant.
Deon was one and half years old when he came to live in the Miller house. He was a lap baby that means he loved to sit in my lap. Deon and his brother were both foster children when they came to live in our home. My home was a foster care emergency home where children would be dropped off at 2 or 3 in the morning for care. One weekend, I had fifteen children. I needed a break, I told my social worker I would be taking a break.
Deon leaves cherished memories to his adopted parents: Mr. and Mrs. Niles Miller, brothers: Bobby, Al, Omar, Corry, and Harlone Dameron; adopted siblings: Jessica Crawford, Dano Crawford and Gerard Crawford; aunts: Joyce Dameron, Helen Dameron Jennings (Melvin), And Betty McCaskill (Charles); uncles: Arthur, Emanuel, Charles and Fitzgerald Dameron all of Gastonia, North Carolina and a host of other relatives and friends.
We never changed their name so they could stay in touch with their family when they grew up.
