Eddie Lewis Meeks, Sr. was born on Monday, February 13, 1950 in York County, SC. After a long battle with heart issues he transitioned to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia NC. He was born to the late Ivey McMackins Meeks and Ernest McNeil Meeks, Sr.
Eddie attended school at Roosevelt School in Clover, SC and at Reid High in Belmont, NC. He worked 40 plus years as a Tractor Trailer Driver. Driving for Spartan Express, DM Bowman and Yellow Freight (YRC) where he retired from. He was a member of the Moloch Elks Lodge #468. He was a longtime member of Flat Rock Baptist Church in Clover, SC.
Eddie is preceded in death by; two brothers: Ernest Meeks, Jr. and Johnny Meeks; three sisters: Mattie Sue Meeks Brantley, Mary Meeks Floyd and Virginia Meeks Leach all of Gastonia.
He leaves to cherish fond memories to his loving wife of 47 years Juanita Durham Meeks; his daughter Gina Meeks Carr (Jonathan); his son Eddie Meeks Jr. and his grandchild James Little, Jr. whom he loved with all his heart. Eddie also leaves to cherish his memories, one sister: Ivory Odessa Floyd of Gastonia, NC; two brothers: Roscoe Meeks (Celeste) of Charlotte, NC; Charlie Meeks (Jenny) of Gastonia, NC; one uncle Alonso Mackins (Ruthie Mae) of Kings Mountain, NC; sister-in-law: Karen Hughes (James) of Gastonia, NC; mother-in-law: Geraldine Barnett Durham of Clover, SC; two Godsons Jonathan Jackson and Carter Hill-McManus and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Eddie will lie in state at the funeral home on Sunday; April 5, 2020 from 5 until 7:00 p.m.
The family will have a private service and interment.
