Mr. Eugene “Pops” Young was born in Cleveland County, Shelby, North Carolina, on July 3, 1937, to the late Ernest and Viola Bryant Young. He journeyed from his earthly home on Monday, February 7, 2022, at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, North Carolina.
Eugene graduated from Cleveland County High School in Shelby, NC where he was an all-star football player. He furthered his education at Belmont Abbey and Gaston College. Eugene was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he was able to travel all over the world. His love for travel continued in his civilian life to places such as St. Thomas, Bermuda, Jamaica, San Juan PR, Cancun Mexico, and Virgin Isles just to name a few.
He retired from Burlington Industries as an engineer and from Wix Filters. His hobbies included golfing of which he was a part of the Teeter Green Group and fishing. Eugene also enjoyed spending time with his family; he was known to debate rigorously on various topics. Eugene was preceded in death by his father and mother: Ernest and Viola Young and a son: Derek Young.
Memories will forever be cherished by his wife: Margaret Young of Shelby, NC; his children: Sharon Eskridge, Kim Wilson (Eric), Todd Young, Keith Young (Chavonda), Akron Young, and Mark Young (Suzanne), eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren; one brother: Ernest Young, Jr., and a host of other relatives and friends

Funeral at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Belmont on Saturday; February 12, 2022 at 2:00.
Visitation: thirty minutes before the service at the church
Interment: Evergreen Cemetery, Belmont
